Do you show yourself the same compassion you show others? We tend to be harder on ourselves than we are others. Would you be that harsh on your best friend? Treat yourself like you would friend.
“Remember to show yourself compassion. We tend to be harder on ourselves than we are others. Would you be that harsh on your best friend? Treat yourself like you would friend. “ Self compassion is simply give the same kindness to yourself that we could give to others.”
If I asked you, do you show others compassion, most likely you would answer, Yes.
If I asked you, do you show yourself compassion, is your answer the same?
Usually, when speaking with my clients, the answer to this is No. We often discuss how self-compassion is the antidote to negative self-talk and overcoming imposter syndrome. We could use some antidotes right now, don’t you think?
I often find myself saying, “Remember to show yourself compassion. We tend to be harder on ourselves than we are others. Would you be that harsh on your best friend? Treat yourself like you would friend. Self-compassion is simply give the same kindness to yourself that we could give to others.”
Think about that for a moment.
Before you are overly critical of yourself, think about the situation from the third person. If your friend was telling you the story, how would you react. If your reaction toward yourself was different, pivot. None of us are perfect. All of us are usually doing the best we can, if you are not then learn from your situation and do better next time.
Self-compassion is always an important component to your self-care and your success plan but now more than ever self-compassion is a necessity. During this current state of affairs, life is in flux, and therefore, compassion for yourself and others is needed even more. Each of us has more than enough to go around. Dig deep if you have to. If you need some guidance figuring out to achieve this, I am here to support you. Would you like to have a virtual cup of coffee?
